I can’t believe that the end of January is fast approaching. What a whirlwind! On the upside, this month has reignited my love of menswear.
One thing I love about fashion is its storytelling component. Fleeting as trends may be, fashion is retrospective, introspective, predictive and reflective. Often times, it has to do with everything in the world but fashion.

After this month, I can conclude that the boys are curious and inquisitive (and cosy while doing so). There’s a subtle alchemy in the way that soft silhouettes are met with austere architectural pieces. Rick Owens’s collection had models sashaying the runway in fleshy fits and even fleshier freedom, with shoulders that reached for the stars. Virgil Abloh’s collection for Louis Vuitton was a surrealist dream. It consisted of thought-provoking permutations of the businessman on the conveyer belt of life.
The models at Craig Green were nomadic in utilitarian garments that looked ready to contend with all of nature’s elements. Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain army served us monochrome, embellishments, argyle and stripes. Jacquemus’s posse was more toned down in neutral hues with his signature clever pops of colour (which only amplified the brand’s spirit).
The perceived banality of menswear has been injected with a joie de vivre and rambunctiousness reminiscent of the 70s and 80s. The boys are colourful, flamboyant and uninhibited. After the feast of fashion that was this month’s Fall Menswear collections, here are some of my personal favourite trends.
“Confuse the Enemy” Contrasts

If you know me, you’ll know just how much I love pops of colour. This trend is like a fashion mullet. Here you have the seriousness of a suit juxtaposed paired with an explosive neon pink bag. Business in the front with some party on the side. This could be achieved with any accessory and for any occasion.
Preppy Poodle

This is where the Argyle-loving yacht boy meets chess club. Add some exaggeration; A little shoulder here, a lot of drop crotch there.
Think Pink

Pink is one of those colours that is wildly empowering. Pink head-to-toe and in every hue, even better. Jacquemus Pink happens to be my favourite shade. Explore the bolder and brighter side of the gradient.
Leave My Pantalone!

This trend gives me modern day matador vibes. When the stakes are high, the waist of your pants needs to be even higher. Coupled with a romantic shirt and you’re ready to rock – à la Prince.
No Shirt Zone

Does anyone ever really need to wear a shirt? Is it 90s Backstreet Boy or 70s sex symbol? Whatever it is, men deserve plunging necklines too. Moreover, it will save you a lot of time.
